• Farr’s, is a collection of photographs analyzing the evolutional lineage of a mom-and-pop shop that has embedded itself on the north end of Main Street in Manchester, Connecticut for sixty-seven years (as of 2022).

It started in 1955 when Jim Farr opened “Manchester Surplus” a general store found between a tv repair shop and package store. Over the course of fifteen years he was committed to selling house-ware, toys, bikes, and camping equipment. By 1970, Manchester’s renovation of Main Street allowed for my grandfather to purchase a new lot across the street with a new name — Farr’s Sporting Goods.

Having spent my whole life here as a relative and employee, Farr’s is a part of me. I began exploring the archives of family albums to absorb the history of what my family created. With found images as my inspiration, I used the view camera to compose environmental portraits and still-lives. I was documenting what has changed over time and the personality of the store inside and out.
